History

Ewart Community Hall is part of the Ewart Road Housing Estate. The Clubhouse was built for the use of the residents of the new Ewart Road Housing Co-operative Ltd and opened in 1982 by Princess Alexandra.

It was used for many years as the estate’s social club but in recent years usage has fallen off and it has been used primarily by faith groups, kiddies’ parties and for Management Committee meetings. In 2015 Lewisham Borough Council (LBC) assessed the site with a view to dismantling the clubhouse and building homes on it.

Eventually they decided the site was not fit for purpose and the Co-op, with the new Clubhouse Committee, were able to lease the property from the council. The Clubhouse Committee have worked hard to set up new events and to engender interest from the wider community.

We have several groups using the hall, including some faith groups, and we are now renting out office space in the smaller room.We have residents living close by so do not allow adult parties since we have experienced a lot of noise nuisance from them, especially late at night, but we do still have children’s parties on Saturdays up to about 8pm.
